Continued...
These days, I am very far away from the the well-behaved and self-squelching little daughter of two classical musicians. Back then I got my strokes from being sweet and helpful at my parents' musical house parties. I think I got extra points, so to speak, for having platinum blonde hair, and being adorable while serving gin and tonics to my parents’ friends...
Jeez...
Now, I have 40 years behind me during which I have fought to be myself in a work world which has asked me to please be anything but that.
It’s a matter of visibility. It’s about feeling that one is not just "allowed" to take up space but that you own the right to do it whenever you wish and without anyone else's permission. I often liken that to a feeling that I am allowing myself to be an adult.
This doesn't strike me as an "issue" of mine but as an issue of our society.
I get worked up about how we women have been conditioned to take certain places in our lives, and in certain ways. The roles of the "Good Girl", the "Sexy Lady", the "Happy Helper". So much of it is subtle, so much of it is just accepted as something we can’t fight (SO untrue!), and so much of it is deemed to be “just the nature of things”.
Maybe that’s why I love anything that allows for free and full, creative self-expression. Like video, like acting, like singing, like visibly bopping along to an outdoor band playing my favorite 1960’s and 1970’s music!
Let me be visible! For God’s sake, let me be visible! It’s all I ever do anyway! Check out my YouTube Channel’s Show, Women Doing Business Differently! Check out my Actor Reel! Check out my websites, Goodbye Good Girl, and Womanpreneur! Check out my artwork! Check out my books! Check out one of my blogs!
Check out my drive to be absolutely taking up space in a world that would really so much rather I didn’t!!!
YESSSSS!
Everyone has "the" answer to How To Be A Badass Empowered Woman…The Spiritual Answer, The Practical Answer, The Personal Growth Answer, The Law of Attraction Answer, The Business Answer...
But there is no One Answer. Hard for me to grasp sometimes because I have a Hollywood mind: I have conditioned my mind through movies to believe in the Magic Moment and that it comes when I expect it! But that ain't the way life works. I have tried ALL of those answers above, and each one has added to my life. But I am more than a mathematical equation.
I therefore finish where we started. This is a long, strange trip, this life we're living. And we need our voice, our visibility, a support system, our willingness to explore, and a rampant desire to Be Real. Authenticity heals you and everyone around you. For me there is no bigger or more adventuresome goal.
